A1332D
This one came up for auction and sold for $1,403 in November 2012
"Heres a rare find, a 1969 dan armstrong plexi, 1st year made low serial #a1332d, 4 numbers, I got this in Mass. from Joe Perry's guitar tech back in the 80s, he also told me Joe owned it? I have no proof of this, but either way it's a screamer and plays awesome, has an emg active 81 pickup, one of the screws holding it in place snapped no big deal, and 1 strap lock broke off easy fix w/easy out, has typically scratches minor dings, I used this many years, stays in tune for months, Schaller tuners and a reissue purple lined case from 90s, the mirror pickguard has a crack near jack, and has discoloring stains on mirror edges but solid and minor staining on the slim neck has some aged area's /discoloring,send email for more pics, sold as is shipping is heavy and i gotta buy a box 100.00 s&h or local pickup, thanks more rare guitars to come, this will be the last time i list this guitar, just played it at a gig and having 2nd thoughts."

A1332D now comes back on the market in November 2013 with an initial asking price of $1,299.
1969 Dan Armstrong lucite guitar with original Ampeg case. Has the usual number of dings and marks you'd expect from a 45 year old guitar. Plays like a dream and sounds amazing through any amp. My 59 Fender Bassman ends up sounding like Black Sabbath when this guitar is cranked.

Finally, here's a set of pictures I took in October 2014 that documents the guitar just prior to listing it on Ebay. It's been nice owning it for the last year, and it would be the perfect guitar for stage use, but my plans for taking it to the next level never panned out due to time constraints. Here's what I said in the Ebay listing...
"This is a highly modified circa 1970 Dan Armstrong guitar serial A1332D. Mods include a tune-o-matic bridge, EMG pickup, replaced pickguard and truss rod cover, different control knobs, strap-locks, and non-OEM case among other things. I haven't had the pickguard off to look at the wiring, but assume that's been replaced too. Oh, and it looks like the fingerboard's been dyed (black) at some point, with some of the dye leaking out and staining the neck (see pic)."
"All that said, the TOM bridge is an improvement over the original in terms of intonation and sustain, and the EMG pickup sounds great. Obviously not a collector piece, but if you're looking for a player-grade Dan Armstrong to actually use on stage this would work well. Comes with a non-OEM hard shell case with working latches. This guitar has obviously seen some use over the years, but the original frets still have years to go." "Please let me know if you have any questions. I bought this just over a year ago thinking that I would replace the pickguard and headstock veneer with matching black plastic, but I never got around to it so have decided to put it back on the market." |
