A1562D
This guitar came up on Ebay in March 2014 and we bought it for $1,150. This DA is in excellent overall condition and comes with the original RT and CB pickups and the OHSC. And for extra provenance, it was also strung with very old flat-wound strings, including a wound G. How often do you see that? The switch is broken, however, and will need to be replaced, so stay tuned for our next repair project...
Here's a bit of history from the original owner, which ties in with the "Audience" stencil on the guitar case.
Here's a bit of history from the original owner, which ties in with the "Audience" stencil on the guitar case.
I bought the guitar new after I graduated high school in 1970 or 71. It was the hottest new type of guitar. I was in The Audience and our most notable summer was being one of the most popular rock bands during the summer of 1972 in Misquamicut Rhode Island. We played the Island House and Blue Sands in the same strip as the Boston Tea Part and J Giles. The owner of the George wanted us to fill in for J Giles but we had 20 back to back dates booked and we could not."
"Today retired from my day job I have needed to sell most of my equipment but still play in a classic Rock Band " Heavy Peace. I have played in too many bands to mention but currently have an album for sale on itunes under itunes store search Sink/ Bitter Harvest rereleased from vinyl and CD sales. The Sink songs were excepted by A&M Records but we did not have time to provide a full album of material. Heavy Peace will be doing these tunes as covers as well as release an original Album. I used my 1969 Les Paul Custom for the Album but had to sell that to. My only guitar left is a 1971 SG Standard with bigsby sway bar and actually has a thicker sound than my LP did. Thank you for your purchase. We would be glad to answer any more questions." Sincerely, Randy and Lee |
Unfortunately, we were never able to source a new switch in the few months we owned it, but the switch failed in the normal position, so both the volume and tone control worked and passed signal. We ended up selling it at the Summer Philly guitar show in June 2014 to a prominent NYC dealer. Stay tuned!
After a couple weeks, here's A1562D back on the market with an asking price of $3,999. Go for it!
