D000A - '69
This is one of the very early Dan Armstrong basses from 1969. Key items to look for are the metal plate holding down the pickup, as well as the slot-style screws in the bridge plate. Also, note the shielding on the underside of the pickguard - we've seen this on other early '69 instruments and it appears to be a feature that was dropped when they started to ramp up production. This is also the correct first-generation case that would go with an early '69 bass. And finally, check out the beautiful figuring in the rosewood fingerboard!
Although the seller says there's no serial number printed on the neck tenon, these very early guitars seem to have had them stamped on the end of the neck rather than the side, so you have to take out the pickup to see it. Again, this is all consistent with this being a very early bass, possibly one of the first 50 made in 1969. Came on the market in February 2014 with an asking price of $3,100.
