Here's a highly modified fretless bass that appeared on Reverb in August 2014 with an asking price of $2,000. Given all the other mods, we're wondering if someone took off the original fretted fingerboard and glued on this fretless version. While it's definitely a factory neck, all the other mods including nut, saddle, electronics and Gibson-style truss rod cover make you wonder about the fingerboard...
"THIS IS A 1970 DAN ARMSTRONG FRETLESS BASS. THIS BELONGS TO A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE. THIS IS THE FIRST 1970 EVER BUILT ID# A1101D. BASS WAS BOUGHT IN 1972, ORIGINAL OWNER FROM WE BUY GUITARS IN NYC. BASS SAT FOR AWHILE, NUT AND BRIDGE DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT FOR THE FRETLESS. HAD LUTHIER REPLACE BRIDGE WITH BRASS ONE BECAUSE TWO OCTAVE NECK WAS NARROW. ALSO REPLACED PICKUPS FOR ALEMBIC PICKUPS. THIS BASS BECAME BAD ASS!!! USED IN STUDIO ALOT. EXCELLENT CONDITION, VERY, VERY RARE WITH BEING THE FIRST BUILT IN 1970!!!!!!! SAD TO PART WITH, WOULD LIKE NEW OWNER TO GIVE HIM FIRST SHOT AT BUYING IT BACK, IF HE DECIDES TO SELL IT SOMEDAY!!!!!"
