"Welcome, you are bidding on an exceptional vintage piece. This is the '70 Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi Lucite Bass. 30" scale. 1.62" nut width. Serial #: D2335. Pot code: 13770xx. 9.6 lbs. The Dan Armstrong Plexi bass is one of the most infamous basses of all time. Featuring a lucite body and a single pickup, this beauty is capable of seriously versatile tones and sustain. The Bill Lawrence designed pickup features a 2 way switch. Set in the 'neck' position, this gives the pickup a mellow, rounder tone. Put into the 'bridge' position, this gives the overall tone a big push. This pickup does it all- from tight thump, to sweet slap/pop, and, roll back the tone and gorgeous silky jazz tones are right there. Perfect. The neck here is attached via 4 machine screws/nuts through the neck into the body- incredibly stable- offering great tone transfer. The maple neck here is super thin and fast- just .80" at the 5th fret with a great flattened C profile. The deep body cutaways add to that by letting you fly up the neck to the 24th fret uninhibited. A real player. Speaking of which- this Armstrong has incredible action. Setup with a shim in the neck pocket, we got the action down to about 3/32" at the 12th fret- beyond low for an Armstrong! The look, of course, is amazing- clear lucite body with thin black pickguard and gorgeous headstock overlay. Excellent condition- there are a few very small scratches- but overall verrry clean for an Armstrong of this vintage. The frets are clean- just professionally setup with flatwounds. This auction includes the original hardshell case, manual, and taller bridge saddle. This is your chance to get your hands on the legendary '70 Armstrong Plexi! No reserve- don't pass this by!"
