D2593A
This really interesting Dan Armstrong bass came on the market in March 2014 and sold for $1,900. The instrument looks to be in superb condition, but what's really special are the black formica pickguard, headstock, truss rod cover and pickup. To us, it seems like this might have been a special one-off bass from the factory given how everything seems original.
"GOOD WORKING AND COSMETIC CONDITION THAT SHOWS SIGNS OF NORMAL WEAR SCRATCHES ON THE LUCITE, SEE LAST PICTURE. OTHER THAN THAT THERE'S NOTHING MAJOR THAT I CAN SEE."
4 STRING - FRETLESS - GROVER TUNERS - 2 POSITION TOGGLE SWITCH - TWO TUNER KNOBS "BLACK PICKGUARD AND BLACK NECKBOARD (COULD HAVE BEEN ADDED AS THEY LOOK IN REALLY GOOD CONDITION). EVEN THOUGH THE GUITAR HAS A FRETLESS FRETBOARD, THERE ARE 24 FRET MARKS ON THE EDGE OF THE NECK. COMES IS A HARD BLACK CASE THAT SHOWS SOME SIGNS OF WEAR & USE. NOT SURE WHAT YEAR THE GUITAR WAS MADE. BUT THE SERIAL NUMBER IS D2593A (COULD BE IN THE 70'S)." |
Back on the market in May 2017 via Ebay, with an asking price of $5,995. Again, photos confirm that this bass is in superb condition, one of only 50 or so fretless basses with the rare factory black appointments. Serial number confirmed by seller.
"I am selling this extremely rare unique AMPEG Dan Armstrong EBONY Clear Lucite FRETLESS BASS guitar! It is an extremely rare Fretless Bass Guitar not only because it is an AMPEG Dan Armstrong Fretless Bass Guitar, but most important, because it is the unique "Black Beauty" AMPEG Ebony Fretless Bass Guitar model which was Dan Armstrong's favorite Guitar! This guitar comes complete with the original 1970 AMPEG Dan Armstrong form fitted bass guitar case (see pictures)."
"The term "Black Beauty" means that this Bass Guitar has an EBONY Fretless fingerboard, a black headstock, a black thumb rest, a black saddle, and a Black pickguard. Ninety-nine percent of all other Dan Armstrong Fretless Bass Guitars have a light brown fingerboard, a wood grain headstock, a brown thumb rest, a brown wood saddle, and a wood grain pickguard. AMPEG only produced about 140 fretless bass guitars, and approximately two or three of the fretless bass guitars were Black Beauty models." "The clear solid Lucite body on this guitar, the neck, the electronics and wiring, and all of the other original parts on this guitar have been carefully inspected and found to be in 100% original and "EXCELLENT" condition! By the looks of the hardly worn frets on the neck, it seems that this guitar was hardly used and kept in storage for many years." "The neck is in excellent condition! It is straight with no twists or warps, and the truss rod has been checked and is in excellent working condition. Lastly, the neck has the original Grover Vintage bass tuners and all four tuners are all stamped "Pat Pend" on the top of each tuner, and stamped "USA", on the bottom of each tuner. The neck comes complete with the original truss rod cover and the original NUT. " "I tested and checked everything on this guitar and there are no problems whatsoever! In addition, It LOOKS and SOUNDS awesome with the original AMPEG Dan Armstrong 1970 Pickup and with all of the original wiring, POTS, switch, CAP, Output jack and knobs." "This guitar is being sold As-Is with NO RETURNS! You will not be disappointed. Please see all of my Positive Feedback's to gain confidence in the accuracy of the description and condition of this item, so please check all the pictures, and ask all questions before you bid or purchase." |
