D457A now comes back on the market in February 2015 with an asking price of $1,000, and again a number of changes by the current owner. Here's the latest description...
"Well, I never thought the day would come that I am letting the last of my vintage basses go...........but it's here. Up for immediate sale is a late 1969-1970 Dan Armstrong Bass in great condition."
"I bought this bass many years back and immediately had it sent to Bill Richards, the only living Dan Armstrong tech around. Bill has a shop down in New Mexico and he specializes in Dan Armstrong basses and guitars. Bill was Dan Armstrongs right-hand man during the days these were produced and knows them inside out. I had Bill go thru the bass completely and he did a wonderful job." "The original pick guard is missing, as are most of them since they were quite brittle. Bill made an exact replica using a nice buryl designed formica. He also replaced the pickup which was delaminated by age and found me one of the original reissues that Ken Armstrong made." "The bridge was already replaced with a 'Badass' and Bill remarked that it was one of the best installs he has ever seen. He set the neck to a nice low action and rewired everything as original except that the pots for tone and volume use a different stem now than the old ones. I have the original knobs ready to put on the stems with some ingenuity, but I never got around to it. The knobs are very rare." "The neck is great with just moderate wear and it has the original tuning pegs. Bill cut me a new bone nut and he installed it with new strings." "The bass comes in a nice Gator case that fits the bass exactly. It is well padded and looks like new." "I want to let this go without too much pain so I am looking at a short auction. Shipping will be 'actual shipping cost' for the bass and case. I will wrap it in cardboard and weigh it and give you the costs according to which service you choose. This is my loss, your gain. Happy Bidding." |
