Dan Armstrong Bass Pickup
Here's an incredibly rare item, a Dan Armstrong bass pickup and an OEM thumbscrew. Came up for auction in February 2016 on eBay with an asking price of $125. Unknown if it's working, but asking price is almost what someone would pay just for the thumb screw. Seller said: "Vintage 1969 Dan Armstrong Plexi Guitar pickup?? In working condition, not sure if this is a vintage copy pickup or earlier version. It has different connectors than my other one. I've owned it for over 20 years." Ultimately sold for $300 after seller realized the rarity of this item and raised the price. |
The new buyer quickly put it back on the market for some reason and it sold for $356 in April 2016. "Ampeg Dan Armstong replacment BASS pickup. I was looking for a different pickup for my plexiglass bass for maybe a muddier sound. I had heard there were 2 bass pickups made in 1969 that were very different. This was the same as the one I already had. They are very clear & powerful. I installed this pickup so I know it works. Easy install unscrew & move pickgurard over a bit to the side to expose hook up. Hook ups screws down. Nothing else needed but a philips head screw driver to install. Great vintage pickup. Thanks for looking." |
Here's another bass pickup that was listed with an initial asking price of $150. "For auction is an Ampeg Dan Armstrong bass pickup from approximately 1969. The pickup works perfectly and has the typical flaked epoxy on the top. Having owned five Dan Armstrong Lucite basses, I know that this is very typical and in no way affects the sound. The pickup is very clear and powerful, and simply drops into the bass and attaches with three screws - no soldering necessary." |
