A1488D
Came up for auction in January 2009 with an asking price of $2,300. A better set of pictures might have helped the selling process, but still seems like a reasonably intact example.
"ORIGINAL 1969 AMPEG DAN ARMSTRONG LUCITE GUITAR. SERIAL # A1488D. 100% VINTAGE. THE NECK PROFILE IS THE FIRST ISSUE FAT 50'S GIBSON TYPE NECK. I'VE OWNED THIS GUITAR SINCE 1985 AND ITS SPENT MOST OF THAT TIME IN THE CLOSET. LOOKING ON EBAY LATELY SEEMS THESE ARE GETTING HARD TO FIND IN STOCK CONDITION. VERY NICE CONDITION WITH LESS THAN THE USUAL SIGNS OF AGE AND WEAR. PICKGUARD IS IN NICE SHAPE WITH NO CRACKS AROUND THE INPUT JACK, AS MANY OF THESE HAVE. SOME OF THE USUAL LIGHT SCUFFS AND SMALL STRESS MARKS. AN UNNOTICABLE ONE UNDER PICKGUARD NEAR THE NECK(see photo) NOTHING SERIOUS, AND IT IS 40 YEARS OLD AND THE REAL THING. NORMAL FRETWEAR AND WITH PLENTY HEIGHT LEFT IN THEM FOR FUTURE DRESSINGS/CROWNINGS. PLAYS GREAT."
"INCLUDED AND USUALLY LOST WITH THESE GUITARS IS THE OTHER 2 ROSEWOOD BRIDGES THAT IT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH WHEN NEW. THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT HEIGHTS TO ADJUST THE ACTION TO YOUR LIKING. LOW- MED AND HIGH (rare) ACTION FOR SLIDE PLAYERS. HAS ORIGINAL CB COUNTRY BASS PICKUP (small nick, see photo) WITH THE ORIGINAL THUMBSCREW. ALL 3 ORIGINAL STRAP BUTONS UNIQUE TO THE GUITAR. ALSO COMES WITH A LATER KENT ARMSTRONG MODERN DRIVE MD PICKUP (FROM THE 1999 AMPEG REISSUES) WHICH WORKS FINE FOR ROCK AND METAL, BUT IS NOT THE VINTAGE VIBE AND SOUND THAT THE STOCK COUNTRY BASS CB PICKUP HAS. SORRY NO CASE, BUT THE GUITAR WILL BE PRO PACKED, DOUBLE BOXED, AND FULLY INSURED. A REALLY NICE EXAMPLE OF THIS NOW MASS PRODUCED, OVERPRICED, FOREIGN JUNK THAT AMPEG IS PUTTING OUT NOW. FEEL FREE TO EMAIL WITH ANY QUESTIONS. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE RARE DAN ARMSTRONG GUITAR ITEMS, OTHER LUCITE GUITARS." |
