D000A - Greg
The fretless Dan Armstrong bass first came up on Craig's List in Hartford (listed by Greg) with an asking price of $4k. It was then listed on Ebay with an asking price of $4,600. While all the appointments are consistent with a later 1971 fretless bass model, there is apparently no serial number printed on the side of the neck heel. The only modification is a replacement Kent Armstrong hum bucking pickup...unclear what happened to the original.
"Very rare vintage Ampeg Dan Armstrong fretless clear plexi lucite bass. Only 10 made. Kent Armstrong ST pickup, three conductor. Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. Original case is a little messy from duct tape and stickers but physically sturdy, all latches work and the inside is nice. No cracks or chips in plastic. No serial number, has employee initials on end of neck inside body. Date is estimated 1969 -1970 based on conversations with Kent Armstrong (Dan Armstrong's son) and the previous owner. These were only made for 2 years. My guess is 1970 since it has the pickup switch."
