D1223A
This one came up for auction in March 2014 with an initial asking price of $2k. Seller says it plays well, but a new buyer will have to consider the changed tuners, missing pickup thumb screw, replaced bridge saddle and non-OEM case. For some reason, the bass is set up with the bridge saddle sitting on the lucite and not on the bridge plate. How that doesn't affect scale length and intonation is a mystery to me, but could easily be set to rights by a competent luthier.
D1223A came up for sale again in September 2014 and sold for $1,200.
"Hello, I've been a musician for almost fifty years and I'm retiring from playing in bands so I'm selling a few of my bass guitars. This is a 1970 Ampeg Dan Armstrong Bass Guitar Serial number #D1223A. There were only 4000 of these Bass Guitars Made between 1969-1971 this one is in very good condition and plays GREAT.....It does show normal road wear from years of playing so it may have a few scratches but the electronics are in perfect condition. Has new machine heads ( I wore out the originals). The new ones are Grovers and work very well. Also includes a hardshell case with key."
